Entrepreneur

I learn from the reading the importance of listening and following your mentor’s advice. They have experiences and knowledge that will benefit you in your career and life. Randy followed his professor’s advice to go into sales first, work in a company to gain experience before starting his own business. He did just that and this led him to many leadership roles that expanded his skills and knowledge of the field he worked in. These skills and experience led him to the idea and to see the opportunity to start a company that fulfill a need that was not being met in the industry. These things ultimately led to Randy’s business huge success. He was advised that being an entrepreneur he will face failures and he did. It is part of the process, part of being an entrepreneur and this life journey. It is not a sign for you to quit but to readjust and keep going.

One of the things I learn from President Monson’s talk is to cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude. I think when we choose to have a grateful heart, we feel less sorry about our troubles and more concern about the needs of others. When we feel gratitude, we count our blessings and not our failures. As an entrepreneur we are bound to face some difficulties and if we put our focus on our blessings, we are more likely to learn from our failures and take the lessons we learn to rebuild and restart and keep going.

One thing I learn from the reading that I want to mention is that “If we are to make full use of our opportunities in life, we must know ourselves, in particular, our strengths and weaknesses, we must look at our capabilities and see how they compare with those going for the same opportunity…” We should not go blindly into the world to start something, we must know ourselves first, work on what we think need to improve and be realistic in our judgement before starting the entrepreneur life.
