Dream
Big
When it comes to being entrepreneurs,
we ‘should discard the notion that entrepreneurship is an all-or-none trait
that some people or organizations possess, and others don’t.” This is an inspiring
line that I know will come in handy anytime I feel like throwing in the towel
during frustration moments in my journey as an entrepreneur. I thought these
questions from the reading were spot-on to start off with being an entrepreneur
especially in this fast-changing world of technology: Where is the opportunity?
How do I capitalize on it? What resources do I need? How do I gain control over
them? What structure is best?
From the reading I understand
why some corporations and companies keep growing. They keep “developing new
products, services, markets…make a practice of innovating, taking risks and showing
creativity and they continue to expand.” I understand from this part of the
reading why when Samsung washing machines started having problems a couple
years ago, I used to ask myself, why cannot Samsung just keep to making phone
related products or electronics, they should just keep to their expertise or
the department they specialize in. This was how my non-entrepreneurial mind
thought at the time. But they were changing with the time and adapting to change.
Did Samsung stop manufacturing washing machines after this failure? No, they fix
their products and kept going. They did not let failure stop them.
I also learn that “a
person’s most valuable assets are intelligence, energy and experience – not money
or other material things…” My guess is that these are things that you will always
have with you once you gain them, they are part of your being that you can use
them to survive being an entrepreneur. You can use them to start, restart a
business or fix the problems or failures you face. They are handy tools that
act as your guidance to not give up.
This lesson from Taylor
Richards’ video is nothing new but hearing it from this week’s reading is a
great reminder because I do not always remember every teaching I learn. I am
grateful for the spiritual inspiring messages that come with this business class,
“You can do it, you can accomplish the goals, the dreams you set. If you
involve the Lord, you can do the impossible…”
